The Phenomenon of Voice is a documentation of the elements of voice and talundervisningen at the Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts. The thesis follows describes Peter Teubner's individual instruction, Pia Olby's and Karin Rudfeldt's course The Greeks and Rock’n'roll as well as a final production by Lucas Svensson's play Melancholia II, directed by Ellen Lamb. Efforts to document are problematized with the help of philosophical concepts built from a reading of The Voice and the Phenomenon by Jacques Derrida.

The thesis examines the educational situation and how it affects the design of teaching. More specifically it challenges the perception that teaching is based on a presence, a meeting here and now. By writing a structure built on difference, tracks, and constant shifts, discussions of practical knowledge as something that is transmitted between teacher and student in a joint here and now are problematized.
