Within Dance Studies, there are still many texts to be written about history in both a national and an international perspective. With the need for new empirical historical research in focus, it might be easy to forget the importance of continually re-visit earlier depictions of history and the empirical knowledge provided - to test them again through the glasses of their own era. It is equally important to regularly make a critical investigative look at theories and methods that have been incorporated into our own arsenal of scientific tools. Are they working today?
